The making of a textured felted hat

A combination of wet felting and needle felting

An advanced felting adventure to create

A textured wool hat

I show you in this class:

  • How to wet felt a hat using a resist and a hat block
  • How to roll to achieve felting
  • How to achieve the texture shown
  • How to create texture with needle felting
  • How to use a dryer to finish your felting

What you need in this class:

  • Wool Fibre 120 grams
  • Wool yarn to decorate (100 grams
  • Curly wool locks
  • Needles for felting
  • Water resistant material for the resist
  • Dish soap
  • Hat form
  • Bubble wrap

This online felting class shows my own way, as a self taught fibre artist, to achieve the hat shown in the video. I suggest it to someone who have already wet felt before. It is quite labor intensive and the decor on it is making the felting process more delicate and long, but if you have the will and patience, you can do, it worth it!

Bonjour! I'm Joyce Fibre Artist and owner of mynoush.com. I started spinning yarn a few years ago to have more freedom in creating my clothing and accessories. I love wool a lot, and of course living in Quebec helps a little bit to love the warmth of wool. Im completely self taught regarding all the fibre arts, but Im a former seamstress. I learned the hard way, with short and dirty fleece full of vegetation, a broken wheel and no carder. Read my full story here. I'm inviting you to join my fibre journey in my new studio in Quebec, Canada. xx
